Emor: After the Ecstasy

Welcome to Shabbat Moment, a text study series with Yael Shy, from our friends at the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. Every week we share Yael’s Torah text study, mindfulness practice tips, and discussion questions for you to reflect + share with others at your Shabbat table. This week’s Torah portion is Emor: After the Ecstasy.

What does it mean to be a “good” Jew? This week’s Torah portion discusses the role and limitations of an “exemplary” Jewish leader, the high priest (Kohen Gadol). By examining how the Torah treats the high priest, perhaps we can gain some insight into how the Torah defines exemplary behavior.
