This week’s Torah portion is Ki Teitzei: Remembering and Forgetting.
Why remember painful moments in history?
In light of this week’s Torah portion, I want to suggest three possible explanations:
1.Remembering/forgetting is a way of being in touch with stored trauma;
2. Remembering is a way of illuminating resilience, and;
3. Remembering is a way to prime the heart for compassion.
