5 Questions with Connect Jewish Tucson

We asked Jacob Meyer, Community Impact Manager at Jewish Philanthropies of Southern Arizona (JPSA), and Naomi Sandweiss, Director of Jewish Community Engagement at the Tucson J and JPSA, about their experiences implementing a Powered By OneTable platform to exponentially grow their Southern Arizona Jewish community engagement.

What made you interested in the Powered By OneTable platform?
The Powered By platform piqued our interest primarily due to OneTable’s remarkable success in dynamically engaging young Jewish adults in Jewish life. We were inspired by their model and sought to emulate it within the Southern Arizona Jewish community, with an aim to expand its appeal across various demographic groups.

What are your goals for using the platform?
Our primary objective for utilizing the Connect Jewish Tucson platform is to establish a centralized hub where the Southern Arizona Jewish community can discover, create, and participate in experiences that resonate with them, including those that diverge from more traditional pathways of Jewish engagement. Additionally, we intend to motivate community members to initiate personally significant experiences by offering financial support through our micro-grant program, along with supplementary hosting assistance.

Tell us about your rollout plan.
Our strategy for introducing Connect Jewish Tucson entails a phased launch of specialized landing pages targeting young adults, adults, families, and community events. In preparation for each segment’s debut, we have been engaging with key community influencers to foster initial event creation and platform adoption. To further this, we plan to organize comprehensive “launch events” for each group, showcasing platform demonstrations, details about hosting resources, micro-grant opportunities, and more.

What positive results have you already seen in using the platform?
Since its inception, the platform has garnered positive feedback and unexpectedly high organic engagement from previously disengaged or minimally engaged individuals. Our aim is to continue this momentum, leveraging Connect Jewish Tucson as a comprehensive resource for Jewish engagement in Southern Arizona.

What would you say to others interested in working with the Powered By platform?
For those considering the Powered By platform, our experience with Connect Jewish Tucson is a testament to its potential as a catalyst for Jewish engagement in our region. The Powered By team has been instrumental in tailoring our platform to meet our needs and laying the groundwork for our success.

OneTable empowers people who don’t yet have a consistent Shabbat dinner practice to build one that feels authentic, sustainable, and valuable. The OneTable community is funded to support people (21-39ish), not in undergraduate studies, and without an existing weekly Shabbat practice, looking to find and share this powerful experience.
