OneTable Now Serving Chicagoans of Multiple Generations
New Program Will Help Participants 50ish+ Create Meaningful Shabbat Dinner Practices
(Chicago, Ill.) – OneTable, a North American non-profit best known for empowering people in their 20s and 30s to envision new rituals and build community through Shabbat dinner, is launching a new Chicago program aimed at older adults. OneTable Together invites those aged 50ish+ to host or attend a Shabbat dinner via its peer-to-peer platform dedicated to connecting people to create their own Shabbat practices.
“Chicago has always been among OneTable’s most active locations with young adults celebrating Shabbat, and now we’re thrilled to offer our support to older generations as well,” noted Amy Bebchick, OneTable’s chief program officer.
“Especially since October 7, we know people have been seeking community. We know older adults are experiencing the same epidemic of loneliness as young adults, so we wanted to do all that we could to help them find connection and build relationships around the Shabbat table. We can’t wait for a whole new generation of Chicagoans to join us.”
Those interested can become hosts via OneTable Together’s web-based platform, gettogether.onetable.org, and start connecting with friends new and old. Anyone who joins a dinner will become a part of the OneTable Together community and can find, share, and enjoy Shabbat dinners at home or wherever they are, and have access to personalized support, on demand DIY tools, and Jewish learning resources.
“Jewish life is so vibrant in Chicago,” said Susan Salzman, director of OneTable Together. “I can’t wait to see more Chicago dinners on our platform and know that we are playing a real part in increasing Jewish joy across the city.”
OneTable Together is made possible with support from Crown Family Philanthropies. OneTable looks forward to working with local Chicago organizations to create even more opportunities for community building and connection. To learn more, contact together@onetable.org.
