Pour with Purpose: Choosing the Perfect Kosher Wine (or Juice) for Your Shabbat Table

If you ask me what my favorite part of a Friday night table is, I’ll always say the moment we lift the glass. It’s not just about the wine — it’s about the intention. That pause before Kiddush, that first sip, that little smile across the table… it’s sacred.

As a wine lover and the founder of Kosher Wine Warehouse, I’ve had the joy of helping people discover wines that elevate tradition without ever losing sight of joy. Whether you prefer red, white, sparkling, or grape juice, there’s always something meaningful about what we choose to pour.

Why it Matters: Ritual + Taste

Wine holds a central place in Jewish tradition — from Shabbat to Rosh Hashana, from B’nai Mitzvah to weddings. But beyond ritual, wine is about presence. It helps us mark sacred time and shift into a slower, more intentional rhythm.

That’s why I love working with people who want to bring more depth to their tables — and why we’ve teamed up with OneTable for the High Holidays. Together, we’re making it easier to choose Kosher wines (or juices!) that reflect who you are and how you want to gather.

How to Choose the Right Bottle

Here’s what I tell customers — and friends — when they ask how to pick wine for their Shabbat or holiday table.

1. Start With Your People

Are you hosting wine lovers? First-timers? Non-drinkers? Having a mix of options on the table shows thoughtfulness. And let’s be clear: grape juice counts. I carry some amazing artisanal, non-alcoholic options — sparkling, pomegranate, organic — all just as worthy of your blessing.

2. Think Seasonally + Spiritually

Your wine can reflect what’s on the plate and what’s in your heart. For cozy, grounding meals, I love a fuller red. For outdoor dinners or celebratory nights, bring on the bubbles. For a quieter, reflective table, a dry rosé or mineral-forward white can feel just right.

3. Support Values-Driven Wineries

So many kosher wineries today are creating sustainable, small-batch, and truly beautiful bottles. At Kosher Wine Warehouse, I personally curate options from Israel, California, France, Italy, Spain and beyond — always with a focus on quality, ethics, and taste. Browse our latest selections.

The High Holidays Season: A Ritual Flow

Wine and juice don’t just belong to one night — they’re part of a whole season of sacred moments. Here’s how I think about pairing wine with Shabbat, Rosh Hashana, Sukkot, and any of the High Holidays coming up!

🍯 Rosh Hashana – Sweet Beginnings

Wine Inspo for your Shabbat Shuva: Light whites, sparkling rosé, prosecco, or fruit-forward blends Moscato, floral rosé, sparkling grape juice.

This is the night to lean into warmth. A light Moscato, a honeyed Chardonnay, or even a floral rosé can be perfect. For juice lovers, look for a sparkling grape to match the mood. This is a time to lean into softness and sweetness. Pair your wine with flavors that mirror your intentions for the year ahead.

🍇 Sukkot – Harvest and Joy

Wine Inspo for your Sukkot Shabbat: Earthy reds like Syrah or Grenache, chilled Cabernet, vegan or organic wines.

The sukkah invites nature to your table. Try earthy reds like Syrah or Grenache, or go bold with a Cabernet. My tip? Chill your reds slightly — they’ll taste incredible under the stars. The sukkah is a space to get creative — string lights, bring blankets, and serve wine or juice that feels as grounded as the harvest season it honors.
