We are now inviting you to participate in an interview to help us learn more. Sounds cool, right?! If so, keep reading for answers to some frequently asked questions. You will find information about how you can get involved and who to speak with if you still have questions.
It’s important to us that you are well-informed and feel comfortable about being part of the study so we have a lot of details to share! Like, a lot of details.
What is this study about?
This study is about Shabbat dinner and well-being.
Why is OneTable involved in this study?
At OneTable, we care deeply about the well-being of our community. We want to understand how the work we do of making Shabbat dinner accessible to more people may or may not make a difference in everyday lives. This study will help us better understand how Shabbat dinner matters in your life. We will use what we learn to improve our program, and share our learning with other Jewish, interfaith, and civic groups that care about building community.
Who else is involved in this study and part of the research team?
The study is a partnership between CASJE at George Washington University and OneTable.
The research team is led by Dr Arielle Levites at George Washington University.
Who is funding this study?
This study is funded by Templeton World Charity Foundation and the Jim Joseph Foundation. Additional support for the project is provided by the Jewish Federations of North America’s BeWell Initiative.
If I decide to participate, what do I need to do?
If you choose to participate in this study, you will be asked to fill out an online survey and answer a few questions about yourself. The survey should take less than 5 minutes. After you submit the survey, you may be contacted by a member of the research team to schedule an interview.
During the one-hour interview, the researcher will ask you questions about your life, what makes you feel connected or disconnected from others, and Shabbat dinner. Because we will only conduct up to 50 interviews, it is possible that not everyone who submits a survey will be contacted to submit a signed consent form and schedule an interview over Zoom.
More details can be found in the consent form at the start of the survey. Please read this document carefully. You will need to sign the consent document in the survey before you can proceed.
What kinds of information about me will the research team collect?
The research team will collect data about you using a 5-minute survey. This is to ensure that we invite a variety of people to participate in the interview.
If you choose to participate, the research team will use your primary OneTable email to communicate with you and to link all of your information.
The information linked to your OneTable email will include: your 5-minute survey data, your interview data, your past participation in OneTable, and if you received your incentive payment.
You can find out more important details about the data the research team will collect and what they will do to protect your privacy and confidentiality in the consent document at the start of the online survey. Please read this document carefully. You must sign the consent in the survey to participate.
I want to participate, how do I access the survey?
Follow this link!
When will this study take place?
Interviews will take place in December 2024 and January 2025. Interviews will be scheduled based on the research team’s schedule and your availability.
Will I be paid?
If you participate in an interview, you will receive a $75 Amazon gift card. There is no incentive for the 5-minute pre-interview survey, and not everyone who takes the survey will be invited to an interview.
Do I have to do this?
Nope. Not at all. Participating in this study is entirely voluntary and you can decide to end your participation at any time.
Didn’t OneTable already do an experiment? Why are you doing this study?
This additional study will allow us to deepen our investigation into the relationship between Shabbat dinner and social connectedness and provide new insights in the experiences of young adult American Jews.
You do not need to have participated in a previous stage of this study to participate.
