Frequently Asked Questions
General FAQs:
Who is OneTable for?
Who is OneTable for?
- Our signature Shabbat dinner gathering platform is built for young adults 21-39ish, and not in an undergrad program, to create and attend meaningful Friday night Shabbat dinners.
- OneTable Shabbat dinners are meant for young adults who are 21+.
- Everyone participating in the dinner must be 21+.
- We know there are a lot of young adults with children who want to celebrate Shabbat together. If that is you, welcome! For safety and security reasons, we can only Nourish guests who are 21+. Kids should not RSVP and are not eligible for Nourishment when we calculate it.
- Dinners for parents are eligible to be on our platform as long as they are focused on the parents. Ex: parents gathering for Shabbat dinner in a park while their kids play versus tot Shabbats.
- If you have any questions or want to talk more, contact your Field Team member!
- OneTable values inclusivity: We want you to spend Friday night with the people who YOU want to spend your Friday night with – guests of any and all religions and cultures are welcome.
- If you are 50+, check out OneTable Together.
Does OneTable only support Friday night dinners? How often can I host?
Does OneTable only support Friday night dinners? How often can I host?
- Yes, only Friday night Shabbat dinners. And, Passover Seders!
- You can host any Friday.
- OneTable isn’t only for Nourishment! We also offer Shabbat coaching, resources, support, a Jewish learning newsletter, and so much more!
- If you are requesting Nourishment credits for a OneTable Shabbat, we ask that you ensure your dinner is enacting our mission by deepening + exploring your Shabbat practice. Every dinner is reviewed by our Field Team to make sure it reflects our core values of Joy (Oneg), Welcoming (Hachnasat Orchim), and Elevation (Kedushah).
- Note: For super active hosts, we encourage you to make your dinners “Host Approval” instead of “Private” so you can bring more guests into the OneTable community. If you are interested in opening up your table, but want some support, reach out to your Field Team member. We would love to support you in growing your community!
I have specific accommodation needs, how can OneTable support me?
I have specific accommodation needs, how can OneTable support me?
- We encourage hosts to give their guests all the information they might need about accessibility at their tables before the meal.
- If you have specific needs or wants that would make it possible for you to host or guest – please get in touch with your Field Team member. Every single person has something they need to make them feel welcome, supported, and capable of engaging in Shabbat dinner.

What is your Code of Conduct?
What is your Code of Conduct?
- Read our Code of Conduct for hosts + guests.
- At OneTable, we foster a climate of purposeful inclusion. We strive to have an environment where all can feel safe, valued, and have an opportunity to form meaningful connections. We cherish the diversity of humanity, which includes all styles of Jewish practice as equally valid and honored, and all are welcome regardless of ability, religion, ethnicity, race, social or economic status, or sexual or gender identity. While Shabbat offers quiet meditative moments, Shabbat dinner is an essential social gathering. We cherish the differences among the Jewish people, and OneTable provides support that allows for the practice of ritual according to varying interpretations and understandings. Every Jewish person and Shabbat dinner attendee is unique; we all celebrate Shabbat differently. Learn about our Core Values.
Can I host a politically aligned dinner, or fundraise for another organization on OneTable?
Can I host a politically aligned dinner, or fundraise for another organization on OneTable?
- As a 501(c)3 non-profit, OneTable resources cannot be used for any political activity for the purpose of influencing the outcome of a public election or to support or oppose a political party or candidate running for public office. However, OneTable supports civic engagement and encourages you to bring the joy of Shabbat dinner to educate your friends and family about the causes you care about.
- OneTable ticket sales cannot be used to fundraise for other organizations – because of our own limitations as a 501(c)3, dinner titles and descriptions on the platform cannot openly discuss fundraising for another charity or nonprofit, and we cannot provide Nourishment toward dinners of this nature.

When should I post my dinner?
When should I post my dinner?
- While you can always post as far in advance as you like, we recommend that you post your dinner at least one (1) week in advance.
- At the latest, you will need to post your dinner by Tuesday at 11:59 pm local time the week of your dinner in order to receive OneTable Nourishment.
- Please keep an eye out for emails from our team about your dinners. Every dinner must be approved by our Field Team to qualify for Nourishment.
Do my guests need to register through the platform?
Do my guests need to register through the platform?
- Yes, all guests must RSVP on the OneTable platform for many reasons. Most importantly, this allows hosts to prepare for their dinners with a clear picture of who is coming. Some hosts are welcoming new people to their homes and using our gathering technology to generate new connections on a Friday night is exactly what we are here for. And finally, OneTable is a non-profit and your RSVPs help us have an understanding of how our platform is being used so that you can help us guarantee that we can keep supporting Shabbat dinners across the U.S. + Toronto.
- All guests’ names and email addresses must contain the guests’ accurate information.
- A host may not RSVP to their own dinner to save a space for a guest who is unable or unwilling to RSVP themself.
- If your guest is having issues RSVPing to your dinner please have them contact their Field Team member.
How do I invite guests?
How do I invite guests?
- You can invite your guests by going to manage dinners→ actions→ manage guests.
- There, you can either email your guests through the platform, add guests from previous events, or copy and paste the link to send to your guests via a personal email, Facebook, whatever works best for the host.
How do privacy settings work? What is the difference between a public, public-host approval, and a private dinner?
How do privacy settings work? What is the difference between a public, public-host approval, and a private dinner?
- A public dinner means anyone in the OneTable community can sign up to attend. The location is public. Everyone who RSVPs is an automatic “yes.”
- A public – host approval dinner means that you manage your dinner’s RSVPs. While the description of the Shabbat dinner is public, only guests that you approve will be given the full details about your dinner (time, address, other guests, etc). You will receive the name + email of everybody who requests a seat so you can communicate with them to determine if the Shabbat dinner you’ve planned is the right fit. If you feel you need to decline a guest, you can do so through our platform (there’s even a space to send them a message). Your Field Team member is available if you need guidance with this.
- A private dinner is for when you are hosting a specific group of people and do not have room for others to join. This might be a Shabbat-birthday party, a Shabbat-reunion, or the like. Your dinner may be visible and listed on the platform, but only guests you invite can see your dinner details and RSVP to your dinner.
Do I need to do anything special at the dinner?
Do I need to do anything special at the dinner?
- We want to ask you: What makes your dinner, Shabbat?
- Shabbat dinner is special, and we hope that you’ll consider ways to set a specific intention for the space you are creating. Rituals like candle lighting, saying a blessing over the wine, and having challah, are some meaningful ways to elevate Friday night.
- Your Field Team member is the best person to talk with about ritual, and ways you can create intention whether traditional or unique to you.
What do I do after my dinner?
What do I do after my dinner?
- Let us know how it went and/or send photos if you have them in our “How did it go?” survey.
- If you choose to post about your dinner, tag us on social media @onetableshabbat. We love hearing about all of your awesome dinners!
- We don’t require receipts — but we do expect communication from our hosts. We love when you email us, have coffee with us, Zoom with us, and tell us how OneTable has impacted you.
- Think about what went great (and not so great) and get ready to host again!
I attended/hosted a OneTable Shabbat dinner and need to report something that happened.

OneTable Nourishment:
What do you mean by Nourishment? How do I get it?
What do you mean by Nourishment? How do I get it?
- Nourishment is just one of the resources OneTable offers to hosts who need a little extra support with elevating their dinners. It is not meant to cover the full cost of the dinner, think of it as the ability to elevate what you could normally provide.
- Nourishment is for a fancy protein, flowers for your table, hand dipped Shabbat candles, a cookbook, takeout from that new place down the road, or a board game to play at your dinner. Your Shabbat dinner is unique and deserves to be special! We invite you to be creative with your Nourishment.
- Nourishment Credit is a pre-imbursement (not a reimbursement!) + it comes in the form of digital gift cards.
- If you do not need this assistance, you can choose to “pay it forward” and it will help another host bring more Shabbat into their life. OneTable is a non-profit with limited funds. Pay-it-forward helps us to continue to Nourish dinners across the U.S. and Toronto.
- When you create your dinner on the platform, you can select where you would like to use your Nourishment, and we always recommend our OneTable Nourishment Catalog! On our Catalog you can find Albertsons Companies (including places like Safeway and Von’s), Harris Teeter, Kroger, Sam’s Club, Target, and Walmart, as well as Instacart, Uber Eats, and DoorDash.
- Not every Shabbat is eligible for Nourishment. Dinners need to be approved by a OneTable Staff member before they are able to receive Nourishment.
- If we determine that Nourishment was not received in good faith, OneTable reserves the right to reclaim.

When do I have to select Nourishment? When do I need RSVPs?
- Have your dinner posted and your Nourishment selected by Tuesday at 11:59pm local time the week of your dinner.
- Make sure your RSVPs are in by Wednesday at 11:59pm local time. We send Nourishment for each person (up to 10 including the host) that has RSVPed through OneTable by Wednesday at 11:59pm, not based on your expected guest count. We cap Nourishment at the amount you request.
- Your Nourishment Gift will be sent to your email by the end of the day on Thursday! Don’t see it? Check your spam, then email your Field Team member.
- Enjoy! Note: If we reach out to you with a question regarding your dinner, we will not be able to Nourish your Shabbat until we hear back. If we don’t hear from you until after the Nourishment deadlines your dinner may not qualify for Nourishment.
As a OneTable host, how much Nourishment will I receive per dinner?
As a OneTable host, how much Nourishment will I receive per dinner?
- We provide Nourishment credit of $10 per person who RSVPs to your dinner on the OneTable platform + $10 for you — up to $100 total per dinner. You are encouraged to invite as many people as you like!
- Nourishment is meant to assist in creating your dinner. We understand it might not cover all expenses for the night, but we believe OneTable can help elevate your meal. Consider asking friends to help out by bringing wine, flowers, challah, sides, etc.
- In order to receive Nourishment, your dinner must be posted no later than the Tuesday night before your dinner. You must also select your Nourishment by Tuesday evening by 11:59pm local time. You will be Nourished for the number of guests who are RSVPd by Wednesday at 11:59 local time.
What if I don’t use all my Nourishment?
What if I don’t use all my Nourishment?
If you don’t use all of your Nourishment credits you’re sent or you cancel your Shabbat, we ask that you let us know within 5 days of your dinner so we can cancel the gift card. Alternatively, you can donate it back to support another OneTable Shabbat dinner!
When do I get my Nourishment? What if it is a holiday week, does that change when I get Nourishment?
When do I get my Nourishment? What if it is a holiday week, does that change when I get Nourishment?
- We send Nourishment out on the Thursday before your dinner. If you need it earlier than that, you are welcome to email your Field Team member and ask, but please know that we can’t guarantee anything, as this is an exception to our policies.
- We try to make sure that our staff has enough time to Shabbat themselves! During Jewish Holidays, secular holidays, or our two week-long office closures in July + December, the deadlines around Nourishment and posting dinners change. Please keep an eye out for emails and banners on our platform to let you know when a deadline change is coming up.
