The S’more The Merrier: #CampOneTable Eats

With warm breezes and long days, we’ve got ourselves wondering: How can we tap into some summertime joy that camp magic brings!?

One solution: Waking up our taste buds. Whether you grew up going to summer camp, or you’re starting your camp journey now, bring the heat of the summer ~vibes~ to your very own Shabbat table with this robust camp-styled dinner menu. Red and white checkered tablecloth not included.

Libation Station

Happy hour never looked so refreshing. Enjoy these iced drinks to cool down from the long day.

Hot Pink Lemonade — Scientifically proven: the brighter the drink, the better it tastes.
Adult Capri-Sun — Not at camp anymore? We’re never too old to ditch the juice pouch.

Starters

The perfect way to set the scene. Serve up these treats to kick off an evening of summer fun and tasty bites.

Gourmet Trail Mix — There’s something for everyone in a bowl of mixed snacks!
Honey Chipotle Chicken Kabobs — Saucy marinade, protein, bright, crunchy veggies. Need we say more? This fun starter is highly versatile. Select your add-ins and enjoy these kabobs on a skewer or slide them right off for a less messy start to the evening. Pro-tip: Have these pre-made so your guests can stay social-distanced while they’re on the grill.
Grilled Blooming Onion — This glorified onion ring delivers all the bang for your buck. Decorate your Shabbat table with real flowers… or these blossoms of crunch.

Sides

Your main dish’s co-counselor.

Grilled Corn With Jalapeño-Feta Butter — A classic corn-on-the-cob with a twist. You can cook it in the oven, on the grill, or wrap it in some tin foil and even roast it over a fire. Cut the corn ears in half to save room for the other flavors on your plate.
Garlic Butter Potatoes — Garlic. Butter. Potatoes. Name a better trio. We’ll wait… until dessert when we’re craving s’mores. But until then, try this stellar starch.
Cornbread Kush — Pre-Thanksgiving cornbread stuffing, there was cornbread kush. Food writer, independent scholar, culinary historian, and Judaic studies teacher Michael Twitty’s recipe brings depth and deep history to this favorite (which could double as an entree).

Main Dishes

Now that you’ve warmed up your stomachs, it’s time for the main event.

Everything Bagel Strata– We know our bagels. We all boast we’ve got the best joint around the corner and there were no shortage of them at camp. Check out Japanese- American Jewish home cook Kristin’s recipe!
White Chicken Chili– Try out this white chili to give the underrated chili some love. Coconut milk, plenty of seasoning, and lime juice make it that perfect bite of salt, fat, acid, heat (Thanks, Samin.)
Tacos in a Bag  – Why waste a plate when you can chill out and eat your tacos straight out of the snack bag? Bonus: Less clean up for you, the host with the most.
Egg-in-a-hole Sandwich  – Rocky mountain toast, egg-in-a-hole, toad in the hole, egg in the basket, you know it, you love it, but whatever you call it, why not bring it to the next level? #egg-in-a-hole 2.0. Might we suggest an avocado toast remix?!
Spicy Macaroni and Cheese — SPICY MAC AND CHEESE. Give your tastebuds a kick with this comfort food that’s sure to give you all the warm and fuzzies.

Desserts

As the night winds down and guests are ready for some sweet treats, cap off the evening with a few remixed campfire favorites!

Campfire Apple Pie Packets– Baked, cooked over the fire, or on the grill, these easy apple pies are all the gooey goodness you could hope for.
S’mores Pudding Pie– “First you take the graham…” … cracker crust. Keep reading for even more deliciousness.
Hot Chocolate Popcorn Balls– Perfect for if you’re inclined to watch a movie. Might we recommend Wet Hot American Summer?!
Dutch Oven S’mores Cake – Don’t worry, this recipe doesn’t stray too far from the OG s’mores components. Add some volume to the classic s’more with the addition of light, fluffy angel food cake.

A Night Ca(m)p

Warm drinks bring on major vibes of hygge, the Scandinavian principle of cozy togetherness. Wrap your hands around a warm mug, sip on this sweetness, and bask in the light of your campfire (aka Shabbat candles) as your night winds down.

Red Wine Hot Chocolate — Looking to add a little Shabbat flair to your basic hot chocolate? This one goes down easy. Toto…we’re not at camp anymore!
Spiced mulled wine — This combo of warm spices and simple syrup strikes a perfect balance of cozy and citrus.

Use this Shabbat menu to campify your next Friday night. This Shabbat, try on the feeling of joy and priceless outdoor memories that come with the camp experience.
